City of Boroondara have a commitment to reduce emissions by 30 – 40% below 2007/08 levels by 2020. Glen Eira City Council declared a climate emergency on 5 May 2020, committing to stronger climate action. To support this ambition, Council set new emission reduction targets of zero net emissions for corporate emissions by 2025 and zero net community emissions by 2030. Read more here.

As a community, we need to take action to reduce our impact on the environment and to prepare for the effects of a changing climate. Maroondah City Council is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2020. To reduce its emissions Council has undertaken actions such as energy efficiency retrofitting in Council buildings as well as purchasing a portion of its energy for public lighting and Council buildings from renewable energy sources. Monash City Council is committed to a 20% reduction in Council’s energy levels by 2020 compared to 2010 levels. Council currently invests millions of dollars annually on environmentally sustainable initiatives, including energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. Read more here.

Whitehorse City Council is committed to reduce its corporate greenhouse gas emissions by 45% and become carbon neutral in its operations by 2022 (based on 2002 level). Its interim Climate Response Plan (endorsed in September 2020) reflects this, to build on the work it has achieved to date corporately and within the Whitehorse community, and build the momentum it is required to accelerate and strengthen the actions currently underway.
